It started out as a movie, but the sequel to Kevin Smith’s 1995 comedy flop (at least in box office terms) Mallrats is now being pitched as a TV show with all of the original cast in place – minus Ben Affleck. Smith has been very public about his plans for the series and has talked about it appearing on sites like Amazon Prime and Netflix, and he announced today he’s off to meet with Universal TV:
Today I start pitching the #Mallrats series with the folks at @UniversalTV. I've got butterflies in my giant stomach. Hope someone wants us.

Smith has been working a lot in television as of late after directing an episode of The Flash for the second season. He’s just returned to direct an episode for season three and will also be helming an episode of Supergirl along with developing a TV adaptation of The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension.
Mallrats is rumoured to begin shooting in January and has many of the original cast returning including Jason Lee, Jeremy London, Jason Mewes, Shannen Doherty, Ethan Suplee, Joey Lauren Adams, Renee Humphrey, Claire Forlani, Michael Rooker, Sven-Ole Thorsen, Brian O’Halloran, Bryan Johnson, Walt Flanagan, Scott Mosier and Stan Lee, who will be joined by new cast members Ralph Garman (Yoga Hosers), Harley Quinn Smith (Yoga Hosers) and Bruce Campbell (Ash vs. The Evil Dead).
