Warner Bros.’ upcoming “Flash” solo feature film has hit another rough spot in its road to production. In late October, director Rick Famuyiwa left the film citing creative differences — and he wasn’t the first director to leave the project. Prior to that, Seth Grahame-Smith parted ways with “The Flash” and original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller departed to helm the upcoming “Han Solo” anthology film for Disney/Lucasfilm. “The Flash” isn’t the only upcoming superhero film to have director problems lately. “Deadpool 2” lost director Tim Miller — and Kevin Smith has a suggestion for Warner Bros.
During the latest episode of his “Fatman on Batman” podcast, Kevin Smith — who has an episode of “The Flash” TV series dropping this week — and his co-host Marc Bernardin tossed around ideas for who should take over “The Flash” feature film. After talking about the Wachowskis and “Attack the Block” director Joe Cornish, the pair hit on an idea: Tim Miller should direct “The Flash.”
“Two key ingredients in ‘Deadpool,’ I feel, Ryan Reynolds and I would’ve said Tim Miller, until recently they told us that’s not the case,” said Smith, who noted that Miller is now attached to executive produce the “Sonic the Hedgehog” film. “[Tim Miller would] think of something, he’s visually fucking gifted. He’d think of something that’d convey running. Because that’s, you know, we’ve seen tastes of running fast in the ‘X-Men’ movies and now in the ‘Avengers’ movie. But for a whole ‘Flash’ movie? You’ve gotta do something like fucking astounding and new.”
Smith went on to add that attaching Miller to “The Flash” would continue the friendly rivalry between superhero movie studios. “What a coup for like, Warner Bros. and Tim to be like, ‘Well, I’m off the Marvel movie but I’m over here,” said Smith. “Or he could be scooped up by real Marvel [Studios] as opposed to Fox/Marvel.”

“The Flash” is currently slated to arrive in theaters on March 16, 2018, although it’s not yet known if that date will be pushed back following the departure of Famuyiwa. While it’s not been clarified if the film’s release date is being pushed back or not, it’s been reported that it will shoot in fall 2017 as opposed to early 2017.
“The Flash’s” cast includes Ezra Miller (“The Perks of Being a Wallflower”) as the Scarlet Speedster, Kiersey Clemons — who previously worked on “Dope” with Famuyiwa — as Iris West, Billy Crudup (“Watchman”) as Barry Allen’s father, Henry Allen, and Ray Fisher (“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”) as Cyborg.
