Earlier this year, fans of Kevin Smith‘s series of films known as the View Askewniverse were delivered some sad news when they learned that both Clerks 3 and Mallrats 2 (which was meant to be turned into a TV series), were both dead. However, the bad news did come with some good as the writer/director also announced that Miramax was going to let him reach back into his filmography to reboot one of his silliest comedies.
Jay and Silent Bob Reboot will give the titular stoners played by Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith himself a chance to come back to the big screen to stop a reboot of Bluntman & Chronic, the superhero comic inspired by the characters, from being made. And 10 lucky fans will be closer to the production than any of us, thanks to Kevin Smith’s Willy Wonka inspired golden ticket promotion that he announced yesterday.

Kevin Smith took to his Instagram yesterday with this photo:
In the caption, Kevin Smith explained to his fans exactly what they were looking at (we’ve edited the caption so it’s purely text without hashtags and usernames):
That’s right, 10 lucky fans will receive a golden ticket that will afford them an opportunity to appear in a Kevin Smith film. If you’re just now learning about this, you’re too late. This will likely be a walk-on role of some sort, but since Kevin Smith loves his fans, it could easily be something a little more significant. We’ll have to wait and see.
As for what to expect from Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, we have absolutely no idea. Since it’s treading the same ground as Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, we’re betting it will be a tongue-in-cheek approach to rebooting that movie with the same kind of meta humor that made the Kevin Smith movie so fun the first time around. It’s undoubtedly goofy, but for people who still love Kevin Smith’s older work, it’ll be a fun return to the View Askewniverse that will have plenty of cameos and familiar faces popping up.
We don’t know when Jay and Silent Bob Reboot is coming, but stay tuned for more.
